WEST BASIN TO UNVEIL CSU DOMINGUEZ HILL'S LARGEST OCEAN FRIENDLY GARDEN

The Native Garden at the University Housing Complex Will Help to Conserve Water in This Time of Drought

West Basin Municipal Water District and Cal State Dominguez Hills will unveil the university’s largest Ocean Friendly Garden on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. on the campus’ University Housing Complex. This garden replaces nearly 7,000 square feet of grass with 250 water-saving, drought-tolerant trees and plants native to Southern California and will save up to 80 percent of the water previously required for landscaping, lending a huge hand during this fourth consecutive year of drought. This garden is designed to redirect and capture water from the street to allow for natural irrigation of the garden. Boulder seating was also incorporated along the mulch pathway to allow students, residents, and visitors to enjoy the garden for years to come.
