New Adult and Youth Rock Choirs Launching in Westlake Village
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. Voices Rock California is bringing two new no-audition rock and pop choirs to Westlake Village this September, with programs for both adults and students in grades 2 through 8 at Aspire Dance Studio.
There’s a special local connection behind the launch. Aspire owner Alexia Liavas sings with the Voices Rock Silver Lake choir. After experiencing the music, friendships and community herself, she wanted to help bring Voices Rock to Westlake Village and opened her studio to the new choirs.
Both choirs will be led by Savannah Koenig, a Los Angeles-based vocalist, musician and music educator who has taught singers of all ages. Her approach emphasizes creativity, encouragement and helping singers find their own voices.
Voices Rock founder Betsy Leighton, a former social worker and therapist, started the organization with 15 singers in 2014. The idea was simple: create a place where people could sing together without auditions, pressure or the expectation that they already consider themselves singers.
“We’re not looking for perfect singers,” Leighton said. “We’re creating a place where people can make music, meet people and feel like they belong.”
The adult choir begins September 10 and meets Thursdays from 7:45 to 9:00 p.m.
The youth choir for grades 2–8 begins September 14 and meets Mondays from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m.
Both choirs meet at Aspire Dance Studio, 5700 Corsa Ave., Suite 106, Westlake Village.
No auditions are required.
