Patch Blog: Go Fly a Kite in Mount Washington
Local kid at heart seeks to regain glory days of kite hill with help from organized sports.

My aspirations of establishing an annual soap-box car race down Mt. Washington drive may have been a bit overzealous, to say nothing of my monorail dream.
So, its back to basics.
I'm going to narrow my focus, but never my enthusiasm. A friend recently told me I have always had good intentions, and it is my intent to voice them right here, right now!

When I was a young lad, my parents would take me and my brother to kite hill. I remember we had was this pitch-black triangle shaped kite with oversized, slightly menacing yellow eyes. My brother and I would take turns flying it on the gusty wind blowing up the hillside. It flew so well as it watched over us. There were no houses on the hill then, and it was primarily frequented by remote control airplane enthusiasts.
The remote control airplanes are gone now, I'm not sure why. Unfortunately, I don't see much kite flying anymore either.

We could start a kite flying club, have the kids build their own kites, put a little Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics (STEM) twist on it, make it a field trip sans school bus (get a little exercise too). But, I digress.
I understand I need a more grounded plan of action if I am going to actually do something worthwhile. So, I'm proposing a "meet-up" or gathering of locals to watch the Friday night fireworks at Dodger stadium from Kite Hill in Mount Washington This is a regularly scheduled event, its free, and quite spectacular.
This Friday happens to be a fireworks night. However, I will be at the game. I can assure you, the fireworks show is much better from kite hill. From inside the stadium, all you can see after the first round of explosions is the slow, hanging smoke. I'm sure some peeps are already doing this organically, and this is a grassroots blog so its still fairly organic if the seed was planted here. I will make it a point to be on kite hill for fireworks night from now on, I hope to see you there.
