Today we took Mr. Mac to the vet for another X-ray. If you don’t know Mac, I found him on Division Street in Cypress Park, . Today we received good news. Dr. Walters, from Blue Cross Pet Hospital Hospital informed us that there is bone growth and that Mac doesn’t need another X-ray unless we see him favoring his leg.
Mac had a gap between his two leg bones, which is why he required a plate to be put in. The plate bridged the gap until new bone could grow in between. In order for bone growth you need weight or impact. Since a plate bears most of the impact, it takes longer for a bone to heal. Although, without the plate the bone would never heal or it would heal improperly causing all sorts of issues.
So, our little Mac has pretty much been given a clean bill of health which is just in time because Mac is bursting with energy. He gets so excited that he has taken to jumping two feet off the ground over and over. He runs after Togi, our other dog, and has been sniffing all over the yard.

We’ve come up with various nicknames for him. Our favorite though is Burt Macklin. It comes from the TV show Parks and Recreation that my husband and I are huge fans of.
One of the show’s characters, Andy Dwyer, played by Chris Pratt, occasionally pretends to be an FBI Agent named Burt Macklin.

We’ve jokingly been calling him Burt Macklin, FBI. Mac, for short, because like an FBI agent, he too has an on going investigation: the case of the lizards under the deck.
Every time the backyard door opens Mac runs to the far corner of our deck. Sniffs around the metal fire pit, crosses the deck, nose to ground, on the scent. He circles the Adirondack chair then heads for the Rosemary bush. He then repeats this ritual a few times making sure he hasn’t missed any clues. Occasionally I see a lizard scurry away from him. Fortunately, for the lizards, the doggie Burt Macklin is about as successful as the TV character at catching his prey.
As I write this “Mac, Burt Macklin, FBI”, is barking incessantly. He discovered a lizard skin behind the fig tree. There is an actual lizard clinging to the wooden fence behind the tree. This lizard must have just molted and lucky Mac found the skin!
I took a little video of him barking at it. He’s curious, but seems to be afraid of it. He is very proud that he’s discovered this “evidence." Perhaps the FBI would say it’s a “break in the case?" Since Mac was literally jumping in the air when he found the skin, I know I can safely say that this doggie FBI guy has had a successful day on the job.
