December NELA Artist- Nick  Frank

Nickolas Frank was born on November 2, 1989 and has been a local resident to the Highland Park area since. For Nickolas, art has not only been a favorite hobby but also a
way of expressing his vivid imagination. As far as he can remember, he has been extremely artistic and seemed to pay more attention to his doodling in class rather than to the teachers. From his early drawings to his more explored
mediums, he has taken different routes in his passion for the arts. Nickolas has painted a number of murals at Eagle Rock High School, from which he graduated in 2008, and has also submitted artwork to the Red Vines drawing competition.

Exploring different art techniques has always been an adventure for Nickolas. Primarily, his area of specialty is in ball point pen drawings, but he has most recently
explored the world of acrylics. Nickolas is a self-taught artist, and is constantly searching for new ways to express his talents.

Growing up among various types of artists, he has always been motivated to take his artwork to the next level. Nickolas was quite fascinated with the up and coming
neighborhood on York Blvd and was taken aback with the quaint and local gallery La Vida Loca. With the drive and motivation to further promote his art, Nickolas
has decided to display his artwork to the public eye. The upcoming exhibition is a way to do just that.

Show runs through January 6, 2011. Opening Night is December NELA  Saturday the10th, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Artist will be present.

Artist Statement-

Art is a way for me to escape reality and explore my imagination. My work is inspired by everyday experiences, dreams and random thoughts flowing through my mind. When these ideas strike, they do not settle until I put ink on paper or paint on a canvas. Specifically, I draw in ball point pen to capture a dramatic black and grey image. Most recently, I have painted with acrylics to give my art
a more vivid and bold look.   When people see my work, I am overjoyed with a bittersweet feeling of achievement and anxiety. My goal is inspiring people to find the artist within themselves and motivate them to express it in forms of art.
