I have been dealing with the Down Town V.A., applying for a per diem...
WOW!
What a wait!
There was a fellow there. An elderly black man asked me for food. I did have a small can of Vienna Sausages. I got them from St. Ignatous in the morning time.
So I gave them to him. I can't stand them!
Another guy was there. A mister Sherman. A elderly white man. He too, complained of not eating...
I hadn't eaten anything either. I bummed a quarter from this gentleman, as he went on about the trouble with the V.A.
I think in general the Veteran's Administration problem. is that like any socialized system, it suffers from poor planning.
I told this person that if we waited for the V.A. to help us we would die doing so. I told this man that there were enough of us that we could realistically help each other. We could help each other obtain canteen tickets, bus tokens, socks, etc. We could help each other maintain a modicum of human dignity. We need not wait for the government to care for our basic needs!
I thought I heard him say that I was right on about that.
I want to see an Immigrant Center here, in Highland Park. I am determined to see this done because such a service to our foreign born brother and sisters is long over due. In Los Angeles, it is estimated that nearly 44% of us are foreign born. In Highland Park that percentage is nearly 5 points higher. In other words we have a higher percentage of foreign born people here in Highland Park than the entire City Of Los Angeles!
We are currently blessed to have as councilman, Mr. Gil Cedillo. There is no greater champion of human rights, immigrant rights in California than Gil Cedillo. and I am supremely confident that where there is Gil, there's a way!
Because he cares. he has shown he cares more than anyone else.
Let me tell you, I have the great pleasure of meeting our councilman face to face on three separate occasions. Each time I was struck by his sincerity, intelligence, and energy. He impressed me as a religious man. I was flabbergasted that he knew who I was. the lowly LU Sec. from the NC. I was amazed that he understood the trauma I was going through personally at the time. He wished me well, and offered God's blessing for my concerns. And I felt he was sincere in wanting to do something for Highland Park!
When I am president of the HHPNC, I will ask the new chair of the LU to take steps with Mr. Cedillo's office to acquire the old Pacific Bank Building, on North Figueroa. Our last councilman promised just this thing. For whatever reason, it never materialized. But the keys were jiggling in his pocket. I desire this building for our new Highland Park City Hall. It is something that will last for decades. And together we can accomplish this for ourselves.
I hope you will join me in putting Highland Park back on track again. I hope you will help me as I propose this ambitious agenda to bring great and lasting things to our neighborhood.
Like free Wi-Fi.
the City's Scientific Technology Initiative took effect last November. the City is currently taking bids from vendors to be the first. I think our infrastructure is second to none to accomplish this. the same way it is done in Kansas City, Austin Texas, and 56 other Cities across the nation!
TIME TO GET SERIOUS!
