The Tortilla Art of Joe Bravo: Gallery

Artist Joe Bravo's acrylic tortilla paintings are on exhibit at the Avenue 50 Studio until August.

Local artist Joe Bravo, who's mural work is a staple in Highland Park, is exhibiting his tortilla art at through August 7. Bravo has developed an elaborate process of working with custom-made tortillas, first scorching them on his stove to create burn marks, then using their creative distribution and patterns to decorate them.

Bravo started working on tortillas again in 2001, after an almost 40-year hiatus, having first thought of tortillas as paint canvas in his college years. According to Bravo, one morning he work up, looked at a corn tortilla and decided to use it as a canvas for one of his final art projects.
