A Little Friendly Rivalry: Steelers and Packers Fans Cheer Together at Capitol City Sports Bar and Grill

Football fans packed the high-end sports bar in Hollywood on Sunday for food, fun and drinks.

Fans on both sides of the Super Bowl divide came out in droves to watch Super Bowl XLV at Hollywood’s Capitol City. The sports bar, which is popular with celebrities and Hollywood’s elite, was packed Sunday night for the big game.

Kim Boten of the San Fernando Valley arrived with her family around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Steelers fan went out of her way to come to Capitol City because she knew it was a nice place with good food and plenty of TV screens. “I actually research where to go to watch this game. This is a great spot."

Green Bay Packers fan Jason Hayward came to Capitol City out of convenience.

“It’s a nice place and it’s really close to where I live,” the Hollywood resident told Patch.

Looking a little out of place in his New Orleans Saints gear, Kevin Jackson of Hollywood said he was at Capitol City to root on Green Bay.

“I have a good feeling about Green Bay. I was here last year when New Orleans won, so I have a feeling that the Packers are going to win tonight,” said Jackson.

Indeed, Green Bay beat Pittbugh 31- 25, during what was hailed as the most-watched Super Bowl game ever.

The bar was open to the public, without a cover charge, but there was a $60 per person minimum, and to get VIP status you had to pay more.

“A friend told me about this place,” said Madison Edwards, who showed off his VIP wristband. “We have a group of 10 and we each paid $100, but then we got a $1000 food and drink credit. We’re having a great time.”

Edwards was on Green Bay’s side, but his girlfriend, Moni McDonald, was cheering for the Steelers.

“I want the Steelers to win,” said McDonald. “But there really isn’t any real rivalry between us because we are both truly Raiders fans.”

Other patrons were there just for the atmosphere and the experience.

“I’m not really rooting for either team,” said Kriss Kicenski of Santa Monica. “My friend works in the sports industry and she wanted to go out somewhere to watch the game, so I just came along.”

Capitol City is located at 1615 N. Cahuenga Blvd. 323-465-1750
