Blac Chyna 'Revenge Porn:' 5 Things To Know

Does Rob Kardashian face jail time for posting explicit pictures of Blac Chyna? 5 Things to know about the Blac Chyna "Revenge Porn" case.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Blac Chyna obtained a restraining order from fiancé Rob Kardashian Monday, following a social media rant in which the prince of reality TV’s royal family may have run afoul of California’s "revenge porn" law.

If police bring charges against Kardashian, he would be the most famous person ever prosecuted under California’s new revenge porn law.

It all started Wednesday when Kardashian posted explicit photos of his former fiancee on Instagram while accusing Chyna of infidelity and drug abuse.

By Friday, Chyna had hired celebrity attorney Lisa Bloom, who is no stranger to revenge porn cases. For his part, Kardashian, hired Robert Shapiro, who famously worked with his father to defend O.J. Simpson from murder charges.

Here are five things to know about the case:

  1. In the aftermath of "Celebgate," a case in which a hacker posted hundreds of stolen nude photos of celebrities on the internet, California passed SB 255, making it illegal to post explicit images of someone online without their consent. Violators face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The law passed in 2013, but there have been few prosecutions.
  2. The Los Angeles Police Department has not announced a criminal investigation into the matter and would not confirm or deny to Patch any possible criminal investigation into Kardashian’s posts.
  3. Chyna's side seems to think Kardashian is in violation of the law. Bloom, Chyna’s attorney, explicitly identified Kardashian’s posts as revenge porn and implied that he could be prosecuted. “Mr. Kardashian, you are now on notice: Revenge porn is illegal,” Bloom told the Los Angeles Times Friday. “Cyberbullying your ex is harassment. Chyna ended your relationship months ago, and she has the right to live as she chooses, work as she chooses, dress as she chooses, date who she chooses and be intimate with who she chooses.” Chyna, too, is making the case that Kardashian broke the law with his posts. "This is a person that I trusted," she said on the "Today" show Monday. "... I felt comfortable, you know, with even sending these pictures and even talking to him about certain things.... I've talked to Rob about everything. The moral of the story is, he doesn't respect me, so if you can't respect me, you have to respect the law."
  4. Bloom is one of the few attorneys with experience advocating for victims of California’s revenge porn law. This year she represented actress Mischa Barton, who claimed her ex-boyfriend was shopping around a sex tape involving her that was made without her knowledge. Barton obtained a restraining order, and last month a settlement was reached in which her ex agreed not to sell or post the video.
  5. What will happen to Rob Kardashian's Instagram account? It didn't take long for Kardashian's Instagram rant to come to the attention of the social media giant's naughty patrol. His account was suspended, and it could be shut down permanently. Kardashian is apparently in violation of Instagram's terms of service, which state, "You may not post violent, nude, partially nude, discriminatory, unlawful, infringing, hateful, pornographic or sexually suggestive photos or other content via the Service."
