Is Hollywood’s Embrace of Digital Marketing Paying Off?

Is Hollywood's Embrace of Digital Marketing Paying Off?

Digital marketing is vital for any business to succeed. Swimming pool consultant Charles Lubbat has been amazed by Hollywood’s inability to embrace digital marketing, especially with the huge budgets they command.

But as digital marketing strategies are becoming increasingly successful, Hollywood is finally starting to turn away from less cost-efficient traditional marketing methods.

Lubbat believes that Hollywood has finally overcome that initial reluctance, but still questions whether Hollywood is getting the results they want. He conducted a study into independent studios, which are better integrated into digital marketing than the bigger studios.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Lubbat has revealed a range of examples of how studios can gain big rewards through their focus on digital marketing.

One such example is The Hunger Games, which targeted the movie’s exact demographic through digital marketing. Promoter Lionsgate concentrated on social media and that was a big factor in its success.

He also used the movie Paranormal Activity, which was a low-budget movie from Paramount Pictures. It grossed almost $200 million through generating interest online prior to release.

Lubbat and other consultants have helped to prove that digital marketing can reap incredible rewards for Hollywood, whether it’s a huge studio or an independent venture.

But only time will tell as to whether the major studios are going to take advantage of it. Major studios are still behind the times when it comes to digital marketing. There are signs of change, but this is going to take time and in the next few years we’re going to see whether the approach is going to pay off.

However, results from independent studios are promising and there’s no reason why this can’t be scaled up by the major studios to alter the way movies are marketed forever.

There is one thing that’s clear. Digital marketing will have a pivotal role in Hollywood.
