Controversial Actress Under Fire For Hollywood Sign Lingerie Stunt
Officials say the actress did not have permission to climb the sign.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Actress Sydney Sweeney's recent stunt at the Hollywood Sign could land her in legal trouble.
TMZ on Monday published a video showing the "Euphoria" star and several other people at the landmark at night. In the video, Sweeney appears to climb on top of the sign's "H" to hang a string of tied-together bras across the letter.
The video shows the completed handiwork — strings of lingerie across each of the sign's nine letters.

The stunt was completed during the production of a video to promote the launch of Sweeney's new lingerie line. Most of the bras were taken down after the shoot.
While her team received a permit to film the Hollywood Sign, she did not have permission to touch the landmark — nor did she get clearance from the organization that holds the sign's intellectual property rights, TMZ reported.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce owns the intellectual property rights to the image of the Hollywood Sign, so that anyone intending to use and/or access the Hollywood Sign for commercial purposes must obtain a license or permission from the Hollywood Chamber to do so," Hollywood Chamber CEO Steve Nissen told KTLA.
Nissen said the chamber "did not grant a license or permission of any kind to the production involving Sydney Sweeney."
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told Fox News "no crime was committed" and it is not currently investigating the incident.
As for whether the chamber plans to get the police involved, Nissen said his organization "is still investigating how and under what authority (if any) the production accessed the site.”
After appearing in series and films including "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," Sweeney, 28, earned wider recognition for her Emmy-nominated performance in HBO's teen drama "Euphoria," which premiered in 2019. She went on to earn a second Emmy nomination for "The White Lotus" in 2022.
Last summer, she starred in a denim campaign for American Eagle Outfitters that used the phrase "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans." The ads drew controversy from those who posited that "jeans" was a pun on "genes," suggesting that Sweeney — a white woman with blonde hair and blue eyes — was promoting eugenics and white supremacy during a time that diversity and inclusion efforts have been attacked by the White House.
Amid considerable media coverage of the ad campaign, media outlets reported that Sweeney registered to vote as a Republican about five months before President Donald Trump was elected for a second term, the Guardian reported.
