Fiery Sunset Boulevard Crash Knocks Out Power To Thousands

A truck slammed into a power pole at Micheltorena Street at Sunset Boulevard, erupting in flames Monday morning.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A fiery Sunset Boulevard crash knocked out power to thousands in the Silver Lake area Monday morning.

The outage affecting about 2,500 Department of Water and Power customers occurred when a pickup truck struck a power pole on Micheltorena Street at Sunset Boulevard.

The two-vehicle crash occurred just before 4:30 a.m. Monday. The impact sent the pickup truck careening into the light pole. Though the truck erupted in flames, no injuries were reported, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was notified, and as of 5:30 a.m. 2,500 customers remained without power. Department officials estimate a restoration time of 11 a.m.
