Hollywood Fire Damages Apartment Building, Woman Hospitalized

The woman, described as elderly, was treated for smoke inhalation, according to the LAFD.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A woman was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation as a fire damaged an apartment building in Hollywood Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the 7300 Block of Hawthorn Ave. at 11:34 a.m. Some 24 firefighters extinguished the flames at the two-story building within 18 minutes, according to the LAFD.

The woman, described by the LAFD as "elderly," was evaluated on site and transported to a local hospital for treatment of moderate smoke inhalation. Residents were not evacuated and encouraged to remain in their apartments with the doors closed to escape the smoke, according to the LAFD.
