Mudslide Forces Hollywood Hills Evacuation

Soil movement around a hillside construction site forced several neighbors to flee for safety.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A Hollywood Hills neighborhood has to be evacuated Thursday morning amid the threat of mudslides. The hillside near a home under construction shifted, forcing several workers at the site to flee for safety while 21 neighboring homes had to be evacuated.

Firefighters were called to the scene in the 1800 block of North Stanley Avenue about 9:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"A visible, unknown amount of soil has moved from beneath a large hillside home under construction," said Brian Humphrey of the LAFD. "Though the situation is described as static -- and Department of Building and Safety (personnel are) en route, a precautionary local evacuation is underway."
