WATCH: Was Tourist Prank Best In Oscar History?

Watch as this tour group finds out that they are part of an elaborate prank at the Academy Awards.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — For most tourists exploring Los Angeles and Hollywood, a stroll along the Walk of Fame is about as close as they will ever get to seeing an A-list celebrity in person. But thanks to an elaborate prank facilitated by the host of the 89th annual Academy Awards, Jimmy Kimmel, one tour group got the surprise of a lifetime.

"They think they're about to walk into an exhibit," Kimmel said before the group was escorted onto the awards stage.

As soon as the group came out, the looks on their faces — and the stark contrast of their casual attire to the black-tie affair they'd just entered — clearly showed they had no idea they'd be meeting some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

"Welcome to the Dolby Theater. This is the home of the Academy Awards, which are in fact happening now,” Kimmel told the bewildered tour bus riders.

He introduced the surprise guests to the "overrated: Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Ryan Gosling.

"This is Ryan Gosling," said Kimmel. "He is very handsome; don’t look into his eyes."

Country Singer Keith Urban, who was seated in the front row next to his wife, Academy Award Nominee Nicole Kidman, posted a clip of the hilarious interactions that ensued between the group and the stars:

One of the highlights of the stunt came in the form of a "marriage" of two of the tourists by Denzel Washington when one couple from Chicago told Kimmel they were engaged and that Washington was their favorite actor.

"Denzel will you be the best man at their wedding?" he asked.

Washington gamely put his arms around the couple and said, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Kiss the bride.”

“He’s Denzel, so it’s legal,” quipped Kimmel.

Additional oohs and ahhs came when Gosling handed off some of his Oscars goodies to a man and when Mahershala Ali allowed someone to pose with his newly obtained Oscar.
