Jimmy Kimmel to Host 2017 Oscars

LOS ANGELES, CA — Having conquered the Emmy Awards, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is moving on to the Oscars.

Kimmel announced the Oscar hosting gig with a tweet Monday morning.

"Yes, I am hosting the Oscars," Kimmel wrote. "This is not a prank. And if it is, my revenge on The Academy will be terrible & sweet."

Though he’s new to the Academy Awards, Kimmel is no stranger to awards shows. He twice hosted the Emmy Awards, in September and 2012. The host of ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" also hosted the ESPY Awards and the American Music Awards. His hosting work has been well-received by critics.

“The Oscars are in great hands with Jimmy,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “He is razor sharp, funny, and unpredictable, and has proven himself a master of live event television, which is perfect for our audience around the world.”

“Jimmy has the qualities of all the great hosts,” added Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. “He knows who he is, he knows the audience and he knows how to captain a ship with many moving parts. We're thrilled he has agreed to host our show.”

Recent hosts have included Chris Rock, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen DeGeneres, Seth MacFarlane and Billy Crystal.

The 2017 Oscar ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Feb. 26.
