2 Undocumented Immigrants Rescued from Imperial Beach Cliff

U.S. Border Patrol agents and the Chula Vista Fire and Rescue Department helped bring the victims to safety.

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA — Two undocumented immigrants were brought to safety early Friday when they got stuck on a ledge in Imperial Beach, near the U.S.-Mexico border.

U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted the pair who were apparently in distress late Thursday night as they were attempting to enter the U.S., according to a Border Patrol statement.

One of the victims appeared to be injured, so an agent from the Imperial Beach station who was first on scene called in the report and asked for help.

The Chula Vista Fire and Rescue Department arrived about 1 a.m. Friday and performed a rescue maneuver to bring the first victim down from the cliff.

The victim was treated by Border Patrol emergency medical technicians at the scene with no further treatment needed, according to the statement.

The second man was rescued from the ledge and had to be transported to an area hospital for treatment of a back injury.

Rescues are not an uncommon for Border Patrol. Thus far in Fiscal Year 2016, the San Diego Border Patrol Sector has rescued 54 people, according to the statement.
