Authorities ID Man Found Dead on Beach Near Border

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA — The name of one of the two men whose bodies were found washed ashore near Imperial Beach Saturday has been released by the Medical Examiner's Office.

Oscar Javier Andrade-Aguirre, 34, was found dead by U.S. Border Patrol agents on the beach at Border Field State Park, about 300 yards north of the Mexican border, according to the medical examiner.

He was pulled from the surf and death was pronounced. Foul play was not suspected.

While on patrol Friday morning, agents found a 49-year-old Hispanic male in the surf, near the border. His name has not been released.

San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to the beach by the agents who made the discovery shortly after 7 a.m., Sheriff's Lt. Jim Walker said.

"It looked like they floated up from Mexico," Walker said. "It appeared that they had been swimming in Mexico and became distressed."

The U.S.-Mexico boundary is just north of Playa de Tijuana, a popular swimming beach in Baja California.

The first body was found at 7:10 a.m. on the U.S. side of the line, about five yards north of the border. The second body, later identified as Andrade-Aguirre, was found about 10 minutes later, according to Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Olmos.

"Agents immediately searched the area to see if any other individuals were in the water," Olmos said. "The Coast Guard was also contacted and a search of the waters offshore was requested."

Deputies called the Medical Examiner's Office to take over the investigation since there was no sign that a crime had been committed, Walker said.
