Bicyclist Injured In Imperial Beach Crash

Breaking: The 21-year-old woman suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, a sheriff's official said.

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA — A bicyclist was injured Friday in Imperial Beach when she crashed into an SUV, an official with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

The collision involving a 2012 Cadillac SUV driven by a 25-year-old Imperial Beach woman and a 21-year-old woman riding a bicycle happened at about 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of Imperial Beach Boulevard and Georgia Street, according to sheriff's Sgt. Leonel Gurrola.

The Cadillac was traveling westbound on Imperial Beach Boulevard approaching Georgia Street and the bicyclist was attempting to cross Imperial Beach Boulevard south from Georgia Street when she collided with the Cadillac, Gurrola said.

The bicyclist, whose name was not disclosed, suffered wounds to her face and the back of her head but remained conscious following the collision, according to the sergeant. She was taken by ambulance to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries, he said.

The Cadillac driver was not injured, the sheriff's sergeant said.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision, but the investigation is ongoing, according to Gurrola.
