Guiding Blind Sprinter Requires Trust

For the first time ever, guides like Jeremy Avery who accompany Paralympic athletes will receive medals too.

For the first time in Paralympic Games history, guides who guide blind athletes will also receive medals.

Meet Paralympic guide Jeremy Avery. He runs with Paralympic sprinter Josiah Jamison and hopes to repeat the gold won at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

"I'm what you would call his shadow," Avery said, explaining that he talks to Jamison and lets him know his body position on the track.

"It's definitely a trust issue. You definitely want to be comfortable with your athlete," he said.
