IB Girl, 14, Reaches State Level in Lions International Peace Poster Contest
Anais is not only a visual artist but she also plays three musical instruments for her school, Mar Vista Middle School.
Anais Gaunin, 14, painted her interpretation of "Children Know Peace" for the annual Lions International Peace poster contest. Her painting qualified as the best poster design painting on five different levels before it went to the state level. This was the first time anyone from this area has qualified to the state level, stated Don Kelly of the Montgomery Lions Club.
Although the painting did make it to the state finals it was not chosen to go any further. This event is held each year and it is our hope that one of "The Art Kids of San Diego County" will make it to the finals next year. We already have the theme for next year because this year the kids were only given a week to paint the proposed posters.
The age limits each year are from 11 to 14 years old. There cannot be any lettering or numbers in the poster design. The grand prize in this international contest is $5,000.00 and a number of first place prizes of $500.00 each.

The new theme for the upcoming competition is "Children Imagine Peace." There is only one design chosen from the group. It then proceeds to the club level, then the district level, it then goes to county, then section, then State from there the painting or poster design goes to country and then International where the monetary prizes are awarded.
The entire process takes a little more than seven months complete the competition. "The Art Kids of San Diego County" is just one group who participates each year. Anais won on the group level and went all the way to state. It is a great achievement and we are very proud of her talents.

Anais is not only a visual artist but she also plays three musical instruments for her school, Mar Vista Middle School. She plays trumpet, alto saxophone and clarinet and is in the jazz band and the orchestra.
She speaks both English and French fluently which will come in handy as she will be spending two months in France during the summer. She is indeed one of the most gifted young people I have had the pleasure of knowing. She is a true gift to the world and I am proud to be part of her growth.
