When Autumn Comes Around

A bit depressing as I mark three years since my husband passed away, and days since my father died. There always seems like a time comes when you lose everything you love, and that is why I write.

The laughter was young in the spring

With honeysuckles and daffodils and

Dreams waiting bloom

Feeding the ducks in a country stream

Watching kids play

On a city street

Enjoying the music

Soft and sweet

And funky and loud

Getting lost in a crowd

In my lover’s arms

Where summer brought

The roses and the catfish you caught

Or grunion or we caught each other

Holding hands on the beach

Vows of forever

Never letting go

Warmth and stability

And child born between our signs

Friends forever, we even cut our fingers

And became blood brother/sister that summer

Then autumn came around

Nothing was the same

A calm before the winter storm

We don’t get autumn here in California

But colors change

The wind grows colder

We grow older

And you went away.

I don’t see colors anymore

Just those I love blowing away,

Blowing away, becoming yesterday

Today
