California 'Digital You' Tour Kicks off in San Diego
AT&T Launches State-wide Mobile Literacy Initiative to Empower Older Adults; First Event Held Dec. 4 in Chula Vista
On Friday, AT&T kicked-off a series of hands-on technology training workshops designed to help empower older adults to use mobile technology and fully participate in today’s digital society. The statewide tour is part of AT&T’s new digital literacy initiative, Digital You, which provides online tools, apps and resources for people of all ages to learn more about how to have a safe and secure online experience.
The Digital You technology training workshops were developed in collaboration with the OASIS Institute. The series of workshops aims to help older adults learn how to better use and make the most of tablets and smartphones, and discover how broadband and mobile technology can help improve their lives. The tour kicked-off yesterday at the Norman Park Senior Center in Chula Vista, and will include more than 20 additional workshops across California. All workshops are free and provide hands-on experience with tablets and smartphones.
The kick-off event, held at 10 a.m. at the Norman Park Senior Center in Chula Vista, was filled with attendees from around San Diego, eager to learn the basics of today’s mobile technology. Senator Ben Hueso and Chula Vista Councilmember Steve Miesen offered opening remarks and AT&T Director of External Affairs Christine Moore showed attendees how to use an iPad and perform basic useful functions. Attendees learned how to turn on and charge the device, use different apps, communicate via email, and even take selfies! For more information on mobile resources, visit http://digitalyou.att.com.
