This film tells the story of Promete, a planet that is about to enter our solar system. When the World Space Institute tries to explore it there is a terrible accident involving the pilots on the mission.
Now Takuma, a new generation of pilot and son of one of the pilots lost in the accident, trains to return to Promete. Trained on the Jasdam Base, he comes into contact with Danguard Ace, the robot that Takuma will be piloting.

Getting to Promete has other problems and that is Dr. Doppler who is a mad scientist and believes he should rule the new planet. Creating robots of his own, Doppler demands Earth stay away or he will unleash his own robot army.
To help Takuma is Mr. X who, at first, Takuma doesn’t trust. Trying to protect Jasdam Base, Mr. X becomes the new flight instructor and is called Captain Dan. The new instructor pushed Takuma to his limits that are sometimes dangerous.
As battles break out Takuma must rely on new friends like Hideto and Lisa. Dr. Doppler is never far behind causing chaos and hallucinations that will bring a battle that will pit friend against friend. It is up to Takuma and Danguard Ace to stop Dr. Doppler from destroying everything that Jasdam Base has worked toward.

FINAL WORD: There are so many amazing things to enjoy with this collection. The underlying theme is of family, history, dedication and loyalty. The characters unravel slowly and never give too much away. That’s a lot of fun if you’re into suspense, which I am. This is classic anime!
There is so much here in the collection that watching it could quite possibly require sending for pizza. Watching the entire film all at once was a lot of fun to get to see the work of creator Matsumoto.

The story is a science fiction anime series created by Leiji Matsumoto. He has created space stories such as SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO and STARZINGER. The DANGUARD ACE series ran for 56 episodes from 1977-1978 and part of the FORCE FIVE series.
TUBS OF POPCORN: I give DANGUARD ACE: The Movie Collection four tubs of popcorn out of five. This is truly a well-done series and the best part is in the 336 minutes it doesn’t leave anything out. I always enjoy learning what the history is of such anime series and DANGUARD ACE is definitely a winner and good teacher.
In the 70’s there was such a change in animation and the storylines that went with it. Instead of cartoons that go show by show with a random pattern of stories, I feel like I missed out not knowing there was such a thing.
