FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: Season One on DVD

The series tells the story of the Gecko Brothers, Seth (D.J. Cotrona) and Richie (Zane Holtz) are on the run. After a prison break, these two men are trying to get to Mexico. Nothing is going as planned, especially when Richie decides that his favorite past time is killing. After a grocery store screw up, the Gecko’s now have Jesse Garcia (Freddie Gonzalez) on their tales!

Then there is the Fuller family with ex-minister Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick), daughter Katie (Madison Davenport) and son Scott (Brandon Soo Hoo) on the road. Jacob has decided he’s lost his spiritual way and leaves his church. Katie isn’t happy and rebels every chance she gets.

There is something else working it’s way through every person they meet, supernatural forces are being pushed toward them by drug lord Carlos Madrigal (Wilmer Valderrama). Moving them closer to a nest of blood suckers puts them all on the menu.

The FBI and now a Texas Ranger are following behind but even they can’t see what’s coming!

FINAL WORD: Cotrona as Seth is a man who will do what ever it takes to care for his brother. The calm one of the two, he tries to stay focused and handle events as they happen but Richie isn’t someone to be handled. He realizes that his bro is losing his grip but doesn’t need anyone else saying so.

Holtz as Richie does a fantastic job of taking this role and making it his own. Tarrantino was one kind of crazed Richie but Holtz has composure and even when he loses it there is a straight coolness. Knowing there is trying to control him, Richie fights it but lets off steam from time to time and not exactly like you or I might.

Gonzalez as Garcia has a promise to keep when partner McGraw is one of the Gecko’s victims. He looks at the map finding the boarder station where the Gecko’s are headed and discovers there is something else happening.

Patrick as Fuller plays a man running from his demons. After losing his wife and finding the bottle, secrets will be found out by those he loves the most. Davenport as Katie isn’t exactly a teen I want to hang around but that changes once the fangs come out. Soo Hoo as Scott is irritated with sister and trying to understand Dad but put a weapon in his hand and he’s got it together!

Valderrama as Carlos not only has a nasty pair of fangs but has a business on the side to keep the blood flowing – literally. It’s good to see him again and playing a seriously disturbing role.

The El Rey Network will be back in 2015 with new episodes for the second season of FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. The series is based on the 1996 cult classic film from Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino that starred George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Salma Hayek and Tarantino as well.

Other cast include: Eiza Gonzalez as Santanico Pandemonium, Jakey Busey as professor Tanner, Adrianne Palicki as Vanessa Styles and Don Johnson as Earl McGraw.

TUBS OF POPCORN: The series starts at the beginning introducing the Gecko brothers with some similarities to the series. That is to be expected in telling a new story but the similarities are a tad more creepy which I like. EntertainmentOne has again brought a DVD worth watching, especially with the Halloween season right around the corner.

In the end – they will have to survive from dusk till dawn!
