Saturday Speaker Series: Restoring South San Diego Bay’s Salt Ponds - Kurt Roblek, US Fish & Wildlife Service

If you’ve travelled along the Bayshore Bikeway and Silver Strand you may have noticed trucks, tractors, and even strange odors coming from the ponds over the last few months.

Those were the sights, sounds, and smells of restoration! In August, three ponds of south San Diego Bay were opened to the bay’s natural tidal flows, something that hasn’t happened in over 50 years!

The restoration of these ponds will provide habitat that’s essential to birds, fish and other marine life, and native plants.
