Sometimes
Sometimes I wonder if it is wise to love my mother so dearly. Sometimes I think about her everything, mostly her love. Sometimes I laugh at us and long to laugh with her again. She calls me and my morning voice cracks; I pour my coffee and wake to her words. Sometimes she visits me and my world makes sense.
Sometimes we watch sad movies together. Sometimes we hug and kiss like there is no tomorrow. Sometimes she cooks my favorite food and sometimes I cook hers. Sometimes she sews for me and I am surprised again.
Sometimes we shop and hold hands. Sometimes she treats me to lunch and we have fun. Sometimes we go to the beach and wear funny hats. Sometimes she makes my day when no one else can. Sometimes I worry about her too much. Sometimes we wear nighties and pig out on homemade buttered popcorn.
Sometimes we play our favorite music loud and dance. Sometimes I rub her sore back. Sometimes she brushes my long hair and says, "You have this thick, long hair because of me. I kept it short when you were a little girl."
Sometimes she gives me things I could never give myself. Sometimes we take long road trips together and talk about everybody. Sometimes I look at her and see me. Sometimes she is unhappy and so am I. Sometimes I wish someday would never come.
Sometimes she is mad and I'm glad not at me. Sometimes we exercise together, most times we don't. Sometimes we go to church and pray and cry. Sometimes I miss her everyday. Sometimes I dwell on losing her and know I will be lost without her.
Sometimes I pick her the prettiest flower to remind her again I love her more than words. Sometimes I am scared to walk where she has walked and to cry the tears she has cried.
Sometimes I write foolish lines at foolish times and burn dinner. Sometimes I wonder how my precious mother got so beautiful inside and out. I love you Mom. No distance can fade my love.
