Skate Park Expected to Reopen Within the Next Few Weeks
The skate park at the Imperial Beach Sports Park and Recreation Center may reopen within a few weeks, a city official said, after it was closed to install an eight-foot tall steel fence in October 2011.
Construction of a fence surrounding the skate park at the Imperial Beach Sports Park and Recreation Center will be completed by the end of the week, said project manager Joseph Maletic with Harris Steel Fence Company.
Public Works Department director Hank Levien said he hopes the skate park will reopen within the next few weeks.
"They've said that before," he sad, when told Harris expects to finish construction by the end of the week.Â

The new fence . Construction to install the fence began in October 2011 and initially was only expected to last a month.
Maletic told Imperial Beach Patch in December 2011 that construction should be completed within a month, but paperwork was holding up the process.

The skate park was originally opened in December 2010 after years of efforts by engaged young people and citizens.
After complaints from nearby residents and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, City Council voted to change the skate park's rules and to install the eight-foot tall fence.
