Mar Vista High School Unveils $11 Million Remodel
The school has a new covered quad, lunch cafeteria counter, Associated Student Body room and additional classrooms as part of a remodel funded by Proposition O.
Mar Vista High School unveiled a new Associated Student Body Center and a modernized Student Services Building Friday, adding a new food service area with lunch counter windows next to a covered quad.
The school's front office and main entrance also received a face-lift.
The 4,452-square-foot Student Services Center includes an area for ASB to sell T-shirts, locks and prom tickets, among other items, said Sandra Angeli, secretary to Principal Glenda Golobay.

The food sales area and shaded quad will replace the old lunch counter, which was housed in shipping containers next to the football field, a location that Angeli said is "not covered and very hot."
Additionally, a former annex building has been refurbished as a 2,200-square-foot Parents Center.

The remodel cost $11.6 million and was funded by Sweetwater Union High School District Proposition O, which allocates money for upgrades to school district buildings, classrooms, science labs, and handicap accessibility, among other things, according to Devonna Almagro, Proposition O outreach manager.
