• Panga boat captain sentenced to prison after deadly SoCal smuggling incident (borderreport.com) — A federal judge has sentenced the captain of a smuggling boat that capsized off Imperial Beach, killing five migrants, to nearly five years in prison. The panga overturned in heavy surf near the shoreline, with one victim later found near Naval Base Coronado's Silver Strand in Imperial Beach. Prosecutors say the case underscores the deadly risks of maritime smuggling along the local coast.
