Skateboarder Found Dead In South Bay

Officers found the man unresponsive in westbound lanes of Buena Vista Way.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- Police found a 23-year-old man dead on a Chula Vista street early Sunday, possibly killed after being struck by a car while skateboarding.

Officers found the man unresponsive in westbound lanes of Buena Vista Way near Rancho Del Ray Parkway at about 4 a.m. following 911 calls about an injured pedestrian in the area, Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said.

Police provided lifesaving efforts, but the man could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene, Peak said.

The man's name was not released.

A preliminary investigation indicated the man either was hit by a car while skating or was struck after falling in the road, Peak said.

Officers asked anyone with information on the incident to call the Chula Vista Police Department at (619) 691-5151.
