Dancing With God
We were poetry in motion
We were rhythm of the ocean
We were Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire
When I danced with God nothing could compare
Our steps were a peaceful, smooth waltz
Love and joy were our pulse
I smiled with my happy heart
I promised God, "We'll never part."
The memory of our dance is divine
God said, "You're a sweet child of mine."
When I danced with God, I walked on air
When I danced with God, life I could bare
When I danced with God my spirit would soar
When I danced with God I had pain no more
. . .Then the devil cut in with his tempting grin
And I didn't think twice about his price
The devil said, "You only live once, God's such a bore."
The devil insisted, "Dance with me, we'll tear up the floor."
Like a fool I let go of God's hand
Like a fool I danced in the devil's band
The cruel devil lied and on my feet he stepped
I didn't like his dance, inside I wept
The devil called me names;he threw my heart on the floor
He yelled,"DANCE FOOL, YOU WANT TO DANCE!"
But I couldn't dance no more
Then he said,"Drink fool, have a drink, you'll be able to dance."
He said, "Have nine, you'll feel fine, you'll be in a happy trance."
So I partied with the devil 'til I stumbled around
I partied with the devil until I fell down
. . .And he kicked me. And he kicked me. And he kicked me again.
He yelled, "FOOL YOU WANT SOME MORE?"
Else get off my dance floor.
I cried hard as I crawled away
I made a wrong choice and I had to pray
As I cried out, "God, help me please."
The cold dance floor hurt my knees
I cried, "God, I've had enough, I don't want to dance here."
"Forgive me God; it's You I want near."
God answered, "Child of mine, don't say another word."
"I still love you My child, your prayers are heard."
So again I danced with God in the light
God said, "I'll always love you My child,"
He held me tight an I was alright
