WILDCOAST and State Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins Clean Up and Restore Imperial Beach Bayfront Shoreline

Speaker Atkins joins WILDCOAST as part of an ongoing initiative to enhance and restore habitat and recreation in South San Diego.

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA - On Saturday, February 21, California State Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins joined WILDCOAST, Cal American Water, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Girl Scouts, Mar Vista High School students, and community volunteers to clean up the South San Diego Bay shoreline in Imperial Beach at the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

The ice plant removal and trash cleanup attracted 60 participants, who worked together to remove 1,000 pounds of invasive species and ice plant.

The cleanup is part of an ongoing initiative to enhance and restore habitat and recreational opportunities on the South San Diego Bay and Imperial Beach shorelines. Speaker Atkins also recognized the efforts of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Poseidon Academy for an ongoing maintenance of the ice plant removal site.
