Jurors will decide whether a Thousand Palms man is guilty of firing into a car full of children, seriously injuring a local girl, in what police call a senseless act of violence on Indio streets. 
• Indio Opens Cooling Centers as Triple-Digit Heat Arrives (nbcpalmsprings.com) — With triple-digit heat arriving, Indio has opened cooling centers so residents can safely escape dangerous temperatures. Adults 50 and older can cool off at the Indio Senior Center on weekdays, while younger residents can use the Molina Healthcare One-Stop Health Center. Both offer water, snacks, and air-conditioned space as part of the city’s push to prevent heat-related illness.
• Xavier's Rosales advances to CIF-SS boys golf finals with 70 in regional (desertsun.com) — A standout Xavier Prep golfer from the desert shot a 2-under 70 to reach the CIF-Southern Section boys individual finals, the only local player to advance. Several other Coachella Valley golfers, including one from Indio, competed in the Victorville regional but fell short of the cut line.
