• Twentynine Palms will open cooling center sooner in "the heat index" this summer (z1077fm.com) — As summer heat builds east from Yucca Valley through Joshua Tree into Twentynine Palms, the city next door is lowering its threshold for opening a public cooling center from a 115 to 110 heat index. The Twentynine Palms Senior Center will offer relief on the hottest days, and residents are urged to share cooling-center information and watch out for neighbors struggling in dangerous heat.
