• Placer County approves local tenant preference policy (sierrasun.com) — Kings Beach residents and workers will now get priority for new deed-restricted affordable housing units within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District area under a countywide tenant preference policy just approved by Placer County supervisors. Starting July 1, qualifying local households will move higher on waiting lists for future affordable projects, as the county pushes developers and existing providers to adopt these local-first criteria.
   

• Placer Supervisors continue economic development program (sierrasun.com) — Meeting in Kings Beach, Placer County supervisors voted to extend the North Lake Tahoe Economic Development Incentive Program through 2031, keeping tax rebates and other tools that support hotel and condo-hotel projects. The program has already helped revitalize properties like Tahoe City’s evo Hotel and will now shift focus toward smaller boutique lodging that fits community character as remaining development units are reserved.
   

• Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents face power loss as utility redirects lines to data centers (thefifthskill.com) — Kings Beach is among the North Lake Tahoe communities whose electricity supply is at risk after May 2027, as NV Energy stops selling most power to Liberty Utilities to serve booming data centers. Local advocates warn that low-income residents in places like Kings Beach are being overlooked in state planning, even as rates rise and long‑term power contracts remain uncertain. Regulators in California and Nevada are still deciding how to respond.
