A Marvelous Party: A Musical Tribute to Noel Coward

Returning to a golden age of entertainment and wit, "A Marvelous Party" celebrates the genius of writer-composer Noel Coward (1899-1973), in a stylish presentation of music, dance and multimedia.

Each Music for Charity Event (MFCE) is designed to benefit a different selected charity, and this concert expresses gratitude from the staff and congregation at St. George's Episcopal Church in La Cañada, where the event takes place.  Proceeds from the June 11 event will go to support City of Hope, where both tenor soloist Daniel Chaney and the (Episcopal) Bishop of Los Angeles, The Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno, have received invaluable care during health struggles in recent years.  Duarte, CA-based City of Hope has long been a center of groundbreaking research and extraordinary care, particularly in the field of cancer treatment.  (Bishop Bruno shares about his experience here.)

The concert, conceived by Anthony Keller, who will also act and dance, will take place in the sanctuary at St. George's, with a rethinking of the space and the seating arrangements -- the audience will face what is usually the "back" of the room, where a large screen will be installed and used for projections that will be both focus and backdrop for the night's festivities.  The evening celebrates Coward's legacy through music and dance, combined with multimedia elements and even vintage recordings of Coward himself.

Professional soloists include Chaney, mezzo-soprano Veronica Christenson, soprano Meghan Miles Tuttle, soprano Karen Altabet Freed, bass Michael Freed, soprano Katie Forster, soprano Sarah Freed and accompanist Connie Grisham, who is the founder of MFCE and Director of Music at the church.  The ensemble is joined by members of the St. George's Choir. Refreshments will be served after the concert.

Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.  Checks can be made payable directly to City of Hope, and are tax-deductible.  This event is family-friendly, the venue is handicapped-accessible, and ample parking is available in two lots adjacent to the church.
