Blanket Drive and Mini Powwow Seeks Shipping Donations
Redbird's blanket drive for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation garnered 30 boxes of donations, half of which await shipping
On Saturday, December 4, the Angeles National Forest-based non profit association Redbird held its 26th annual Blanket Drive and Mini Powwow at the Simi Valley Library. People were eager to gather again; to sing, to dance, to see friends old and new, and to give to a good cause.
Redbird took home a big haul of new, warm, washable blankets and warm winter clothing to ship to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of South Dakota. They also gathered enough monetary donations to cover the shipping of the first half of those goods. 15 boxes of new blankets and warm winter gear shipped from the La Canada Post Office on Monday, December 6.
The second batch - one old school Suburban filled to the rooftop was not big enough to hold everything - is being packed now, but the non profit is looking for donations to cover the postage on this second shipment. Redbird needs roughly $1,200.00 to ship the remaining blankets.

Even with discounted shipping through PayPal (same rates as Pirate Ship, if you wondered) the boxes are running $67.28 a piece. There are roughly another fifteen to eighteen boxes left to ship.
Redbird hopes to inspire a few more wonderful people to donate the funds needed to get the last boxes on their way. They will be ready to ship by day's end Tuesday, December 7.
