Crime Blotter: Power Out, Burglaries Up
The following reports were taken from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Crescenta Valley Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

A number of residential burglaries were reported during the extended, storm-related power outage.
On Dec. 2, a residence in the 700 block of Saint Katherine Drive was reported burglarized. The victim reported not being able to activate the home’s security system that morning due to the power outage. The home was found ransacked when he returned to it in the afternoon.
Reported stolen was $33,000 in currency, $11,238 worth of clothing and fur, and $65 in household goods. Items listed as stolen include three laptops, an iPod touch, a men’s gold and diamond Rolex, a men’s gold and diamond Omega watch, a ladies gold Rolex, silver coins, gold bracelets, a five carat diamond ring, cameras, men’s suits, men’s shoes, a Valentino purse and change purse, Prada wallet, Tiffany keychain and sunglasses. A 9mm Beretta, 38 caliber Smith and Wesson, and 9mm semi-automatic firearm – all unregistered - were also reported stolen. The value on the jewelry, office equipment and miscellaneous items was not made available in the police report.

On the morning of Dec. 3, a resident in the 4900 block of Terracita Lane reported stolen from her home an original painting valued at $10,000, a porcelain statue valued at $5,000, and an 18k gold necklace valued at $5,000. The victim noted that during the time of the burglary the residence had been locked but the video surveillance security system had not been working due to the power outage.
A resident in the 900 block of Flintridge Avenue reported to deputies that his family stayed in a hotel the night of Saturday, Dec. 3 due to the power outage. When they arrived home the following morning, they found the front door to their residence wide open, the home ransacked and a flat screen television missing from the family room. Reported stolen was $15,000 worth of electronics including four flat screen televisions. Due to the power outage, the home’s surveillance cameras and alarm system were not operational.

At 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, a resident in the 700 block of Hillcrest Avenue returned home from dinner to find the rear sliding glass door open and items stolen from a locked file cabinet located inside the residence. Reported stolen was a blue jewelry bag containing a tennis bracelet valued at $10,00 and an undisclosed amount of currency.
