Crime Blotter: Things That Go Bump in the Night

Unlocked Cars Targeted at LCHS
Two separate petty thefts occurred at , 4463 Oak Grove Drive, both involving cars left unlocked and unattended in the campus parking lot.
At 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, a man reported his wallet stolen from where he had left it sitting on the front passenger seat of his unlocked 2000 Toyota Camry. The wallet contained his driver’s license, a credit card, and $23 cash.

On Sunday at 10:30 a.m., a purse was taken from the floor under the front passenger seat of an unlocked car. The stolen purse contained the victim’s credit card, bankcard, gas card, driver’s license, and $15 cash.
Popped Hood, Stolen Goods

On the morning of Thursday, August 11, a resident in the 4400 block of Rockland Place found her mother’s 1997 Chevy Malibu- parked in the home’s carport -with the hood propped open, both front doors unlocked, and both front seats folded down toward the backseat. On the floor of the car’s front passenger seat she found a silver wallet containing notes and gift cards, but did not know to whom it belonged. The wallet was booked into evidence.
Deputies noted that the car’s doors had been locked, but the victim had left the driver’s side window open about three inches.. There were not signs of forced entry. A CD player, CDs, sunglasses, and earrings, together valued at $290, were reported stolen.
Burglar, Not Cats
While he was trying to sleep during the night of Saturday August 13, a resident in the 4500 block of Belita Lane heard noises in his house but assumed them to be caused by the house settling or the family’s cats moving about. However, when he entered the kitchen the next morning, he found a silverware container out of place on the counter. A nearby sliding glass door and its curtain were slightly open and several handprints could be seen along a hallway wall. Nothing was reported stolen from the home.
Good Neighbor
A resident in the 4000 block of Mapstead Road called deputies when she noticed the front door of her vacationing neighbor’s home wide open at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, August 11.
Inside the house, deputies found numerous drawers and cabinets open and believed that someone had been rummaging about. Deputies contacted the resident, who was unable to remember if she had locked her front door before heading out on vacation, but did say that she always kept the closets neat and doors closed.
