Duo Piano Recital

An amusing, witty, and lush concert featuring the two-piano suite by Sergei Rachmaninoff.  

Katharine Starbird and Barbara Shofler will play classical selections that will please your ear, and invite you to laughter and joy in the way that great music often does. The program will begin with a gorgeous sonata by Johannes Brahms, guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings as you listen to the poignant and beautiful melodies.

The sonata by the French composer Darius Milhaud may have you laughing out loud as you listen to the witty and amusing first movement, which sounds remarkably like the pop tune “Heart and Soul”.  The sonata ends with an Argentine Tango which will have you tapping your toes.

Katharine Starbird and Barbara Shofler will present the first musical program on the LCPC 2011-2012 Ovations series.  Katharine, a member of La Canada Presbyterian Church, and Barbara are musical colleagues who have performed in the Los Angeles area for many groups.  Each of them has appeared with the Pasadena Community Orchestra as concerto soloist. Their longtime collaboration stems from their membership in the Tuesday Musicale of Pasadena.
