Musical Hilarity Orchestra Concert

An Ovations Concert
featuring
LCPC Orchestra
Directed by Jack D. Lantz

“Musical Hilarity,” which will feature La Canada Presbyterian Church’s 50-piece orchestra, is a mad concoction of familiar music in often-hilarious combinations, juxtapositions and styles.

“It’s truly a concert for people who hate music,” Jack Lantz, LCPC’s Director of Music and Worship Arts, said with tongue firmly placed in cheek. “It’s also for people who love music.” How zany? Well, Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter,” with percussionist Terry Schonig performing on a century-old Remington typewriter. And Malcolm Arnold’s “Grand, Grand Festival Overture,” with some surprise soloists holding forth on Hoover vacuum cleaners and floor polishers. Also music from Looney Tunes cartoons.  The afternoon’s whimsical musical mix will include “Jingle Bells” done as a Sousa march, excerpts from Mozart’s “A Musical Joke” (divertimento for strings and horns), the music of “Star Trek,” accompanied by video, and “The Lone Ranger” theme from Rossini’s “William Tell Overture.”
