Photo Gallery: Memorial Torch Relay Run

Check out photos from Sunday's afternoon run with the sheriff's station.

Over the weekend, the  hosted its 34th annual . The relay celebrates and honors the memory of the emergency responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The relay, which began Friday morning at 9 a.m. in Monterey Park, consisted of 300 miles divided into 60 legs. Each leg was represented by a different sheriff's station in Los Angeles County.

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station's leg began in the Angeles National Forest on Sunday morning and ended at their home station. However, Capt. David Silversparre organized an additional 4-mile run for the community to be part of. 18 participants ran from the Sheriff's Station to La Cañada High School, traveling approximately 10 mph. Police cars escorted the runners with flashing lights.

Capt. Silversparre was out, pounding the pavement in the mild afternoon heat.

Capt. Silversparre, who participates in the event annually, explained that the memorial run "not only memorializes ... officers that fell in 2010," but "memorializes all the officers over the years." Capt. Silversparre explained that he has had "quite a few friends who have died in the line of duty."

Silversparre sported a shirt that read "Deputy Dave March, End of Watch: 4-29-02," a friend whom he was proud to honor.
