LAGUNA BEACH, CA β€” Two big public works projects are slotted to start in Laguna Beach, after city and county officials secured a $1,525,000 allocation for Laguna Beach Public Works infrastructure projects.

The allocation comes after Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 102 Thursday, which included allocations of $1,225,000 to the City of Laguna Beach for the rehabilitation of Moss Street Beach Access point and $300,000 for the construction of a dog play area at Moulton Meadows Park.

The funding was secured by City Manager Shohreh Dupuis and Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen, who worked in partnership with Sen. Dave Min and Assemblymember Diane Dixon.

According to the city, the Moss Street Beach Access project includes removing existing beach access improvements and constructing new concrete pathways, stairways and stairway bridge structures.

The work will improve accessibility and provide additional landings to create areas to enjoy the ocean views Moss Cove has to offer. Construction is scheduled to start Sept. 2023.

As a part of the Moulton Meadows Dog Play Area project, crews will construct a 9,900 SF dog play area. Improvements include a six-foot fence with a double entry gate and one maintenance gate in the northwest corner.

The play area will include benches, new trash and recycling bins, a decorative fire hydrant, vining plants and a four-foot-wide planter area.

Construction on the park is expected to start July 2023.

β€œWe sincerely thank Senator Dave Min and Assemblymember Dixon for their support in prioritizing these projects for the City of Laguna Beach,” Whalen said in a news release. β€œOur community will really appreciate having these projects completed with the help of this funding.”
