2nd Arrest In Shops At The Cliffs Jewelry Heist

A second man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with Laguna Beach burglaries from last summer.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Laguna Beach Police made a second arrest on Wednesday in last summer's jewelry store heists. Over $200,000 was stolen from four businesses last year at the Shops at the Cliffs Center on Coast Highway, Laguna Beach Police Department Sgt. Jim Cota said.

Though two men were seen on security footage, only one had been arrested in relation to the crimes. Edward Torrison, an Oceanside resident, was arrested in September of 2017 after a wild foot-chase. He pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of grand theft and one count of receiving stolen property, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office, and was sentenced to 32 months in state prison. The second suspect has remained at large.

Laguna Beach police detectives returned to Oceanside on Wednesday and arrested Alexander Kenneth Joe Aguirre, a 26-year-old, on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Detectives found jewelry in Aguirre's bedroom that was believed to be connected to the Laguna Beach case, Cota told the LA Times. Authorities will contact businesses for the return of merchandise that has been recovered, according to Cota.
