3 Arrests, 900 Drivers 'Greeted' At Laguna Beach DUI Checkpoint

On Saturday, 3 were arrested on suspicion of DUI, Laguna Beach police said. 90% of Californians approve of DUI checkpoints. How about you?

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Saturday night in Laguna Beach was a little safer thanks to the Laguna Beach Police Department. A DUI Checkpoint, established between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. at Aliso Beach and Coast Highway, LBPD said. During that time, 900 drivers were "greeted" by police, to gauge their sobriety and check for current drivers' licenses.

Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said. Four were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed, or on a suspended or revoked license, and four more citations were issued, they said.

"The Laguna Beach Police Department will be conducting numerous DUI education and enforcement details throughout 2018 in an ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways," they said.

Checkpoints are operated by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Anyone who sees a suspected drunken driver should be reminded to call 9-1-1, the LBPD said.
