LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Flooding caused by high tides and a powerful surf impacted Coast Highway and shut down a busy Laguna Beach road Friday morning.
The flooding, which was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Friday, prompted authorities to shut down inbound Broadway at Beach Street and outbound Broadway at Coast Highway.
Photos posted by the City of Laguna Beach show the varying extent of the flooding, which caused water to wash over local roadways and sidewalks.
"High tides and big waves caused flooding along Coast Highway and Broadway Street, but our Public Works Department was quick to respond," the Laguna Beach Police Department said in a statement. "Thanks to their hard work and swift action, the flooding was addressed and the affected roads have been reopened."
The flooding comes a day after inches of water were reported on Coast Highway near Main Beach, amid an ongoing flood advisory currently impacting South Orange County beaches.
According to the National Weather Service, the Coastal Flood Advisory will remain in effect until 2 p.m. this Tuesday due to powerful waves of up to six feet in height projected to hit coastal Orange County.
Throughout the advisory, residents can expect the flooding of beach parking lots, boardwalks and roads.
Minor coastal erosion is also likely, the service said.
"High tides are expect to peak between six and-a-half and seven feet during the mornings and evenings," the service said in a statement. "Additional south swells may produce another round of elevated to high surf Sunday through Tuesday, highest on Sunday."
