Dramatic Photos Show Overnight Fire Near Laguna Beach Food Pantry
A fire in Laguna Canyon forced the road closure of Laguna Canyon Road for a time Friday evening.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A fire that started Friday night on Laguna Canyon Road near the Laguna Food Pantry was knocked down around 11 p.m., according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz.
A 100 by 100-foot brush fire was reported in the 20600 block of Laguna Canyon Road near the pantry at approximately 6:45 p.m. Fire officials said 75 firefighters made an aggressive attack, with help from the OCFA helicopter.
"Good progress is being made, though Laguna Canyon Road is closed for now," Kurtz said.

As of 8:45 p.m., forward progress of the fire was halted, and Laguna Beach Fire, along with OCFA firefighters, were mopping up the perimeter and hot spots within the fire line.

The fire burned on the south side of the canyon, according to reports. Firefighters worked to hit the blaze hard and fast as the flames burned through vegetation and uphill, away from the Laguna Food Pantry. No buildings were threatened and no one was reported injured. Firefighters are still determining the cause of the blaze.

Residents were allowed passage through Laguna Canyon Road by 9 p.m. and by 11 p.m. the road was clear of emergency vehicles.
