The Laguna Canyon fire, located in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, two and a half miles northeast of Laguna Beach, is 93-percent contained, according to the Orange County Fire Authority this morning.
The fire burned 47 total acres of wilderness land on June 26 and mop-up efforts have been in effect all week as a containment border is built around the fire. Steep terrain has made the total containment a slow and laborious process, according to Kurtz.
"We cannot afford one ember to cross that line," OCFA Capt. Larry Kurtz said.
Update--Tuesday, June 28 3 p.m.
Staffing on the Laguna Canyon fire has been reduced to 25 personnel, according to Capt. Larry Kurtz who are conducting "mop up" procedures. Still trying to get that ring around the fire, firebreak put in--rough terrain. Late tonight and early tomorrow.
According to Orange County Parks, the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park will remain closed through Tuesday, June 28 following the canyon fire event.

"With this fire, we are dealing with steep and rugged terrain which has slowed the containment process," Kurtz said. "We do not consider the fire contained until we've established a 50 to 100 foot damp earth around the area. We can't afford to let one ember go over that line or we're back to square one."
There are no road closures due to this fire, and most trails are open through the area, as of Monday. The cause of the brush fire remains under investigation.
Update:
As of 7 p.m. Sunday, June 26, forward progress of the Laguna Canyon fire has been stopped, according to the Orange County Fire Authority public information officers. Containment of the fire was at 60-percent as of last report.
ORIGINAL STORY
A brush fire that began at the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park has bloomed to 45-acres according to the Orange County Fire Authority. At this time, there is no word on containment, though "good progress" has been made according to the OCFA.
As of 4:30 p.m., Laguna Canyon Road remains closed into the park, OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito told Patch. The road is open to outbound traffic.
A report from the City of Laguna Beach states that those with proof of residency can make access to their homes in the affected area.
"There are no injuries and no structures threatened at this time," Bommarito said. "We are making good progress on the fire."
"At this time, the aircrafts have left, due to the coastal marine layer that is moving in, raising the humidity which will help put down the fire," Bommarito said.
Evacuations took place in the park, however no neighborhoods were involved.
"There are 120 firefighters on scene," he said, "And though we have no containment estimates at this time, but we do have control objectives in place."
