The Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts (LBaa) is now accepting applications for the $5,000 [seven-degrees] of Inspiration grant. Deadline for applications is February 3, 2012.

Each year the Alliance presents the “Art Star Awards” to honor the best and brightest of Laguna’s diverse artistic community. Next year will mark the 6th Annual Art Star Awards to be held at , and with it comes an exciting opportunity for an individual Laguna Beach-based artist to receive a $5,000 grant. This grant is generously funded by [seven-degrees].

“This was a perfect opportunity for [seven-degrees] to tangibly demonstrate our commitment to artistic forward thinking and invention, and it is our pleasure to partner with LBaa by funding this grant” said Dora Wexell, Executive Director of [seven-degrees].

The goal of the [seven-degrees] of Inspiration grant is to provide support for an emerging or established Laguna Beach artist to develop and present an innovative arts project or program that advances recognition of Laguna Beach as a progressive arts city.  It also enables the artist to expand and diversify his/her audience, and provides an opportunity for advanced learning and progression.  

Three finalists will be chosen from the pool of applicants, and the winner will be announced at the Art Star Awards on Sunday, April 1, 2012.  The grant is open to both creative artists (including choreographers, composers, playwrights and visual artists) as well as interpretive artists (including dancers, instrumental and vocal musicians, and actors).  Artistic disciplines can include dance, literature, music, theatre, media arts, visual arts, or a combination of any of the above.  The individual winner of the $5,000 grant will have 11 months to complete their project, and the body of work will premiere at the 2013 Art Star Awards.
